I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor practicing in Portland where I work with adolescents, adults, and couples helping them identify key problems, understand those problems, and make improvements in their lives.
A clinical supervisor once explained to me that my central job as a psychotherapist is to help people function at their highest level possible. Although this was said to me a number of years ago, I use this belief system every day in my practice.
My method is primarily grounded in Relational Psychodynamic Theory where past relationship dynamics are addressed within and through the psychotherapist/ patient relationship helping to improve self-confidence and minimize blockages to healthy relationships. Although Relational Psychodynamic Theory is the backbone of my training, I also use other techniques and theoretical basis to address problems such as EMDR, Gestalt, and Cognitive Behavioral. I obtained a Master of Arts in Psychology and Counseling from Goddard College in 1996 and engaged in postgraduate studies at the University of Essex, Centre of Psychoanalytic Studies from 2007 to 2009. Over the past twenty years, I have maintained a part-time private practice while working in various hospital and community mental health settings. Today, in full-time private practice, I assist people, I often assist people (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, straight) with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship stress, work stress, school stress, and dream interpretation.
